ASRock has just announced a brand new LGA2011v3 motherboard for workstation / PC enthusiasts builds. The X99 WS-E is built in the EATX form factor and is driven by the Intel X99 Express chipset and supports Intel’s Core i7 Haswell-E and Xeon E5-2600 Haswell-EP processors. The board has a 12-phase CPU VRM with a 4-phase memory VRM and draws power from a 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS and two optional 4-pin molex connectors.
The CPU socket is wired to eight DDR4 DIMM slots, which can handle up to 128 GB of quad-channel memory. As far as expansion slots go you have seven PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. The board has two PLX PEX-8747 bridge chips which will take two x16 links from the CPU and turn them into a total of four Gen 3.0 x16 slots t hat will run at x16 bandwidth all of the time. There is also a third PCIe 3.0 x8 slot that is directly wired out from the CPU. Both of the PLX PEX-8747 bridge chips have bypass slots so if you happen to only want to run two cards and want direct paths between them and the CPU you can have it that way.
As far as storage goes you have 10 SATA 6GB/s ports that are driven by the PCH, two of which convert to a single SATA-Express connector and you have two additional 6 GB/s ports from a Marvell controller and a M.2 (PCIe 2.0 x4) slot.
Other connectivity on the board includes two Gigabit Ethernet connections that do support teaming, eight USB 3.0 ports (four at the rear, four by headers), a single eSATA 6 GB/s port, and four USB 2.0 ports.
The board also features ASRock’s Purity Sound 2 audio (Realtek ALC1150 CODEC with 115 dBA SNR, Ti Burr-Brown NE5532 headphones amplifier, Nichicon audio-grade electrolytic capacitors, EMI shielding, and PCB ground-layer isolation). The board is designed with ASRock Super Alloy design that features a XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink, Premium 60A Power Choke, Premium Memory Alloy Choke, Ultra Dual-N MOSFET (UDM), Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps and a Sapphire Black PCB.
