ASUS Outs ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha Motherboard with Improved CPU VRM

ASUS has just released an updated version of their ROG Zenith II Extreme motherboard which they are dubbing the ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha. While ASUS’s entire sTRX4 motherboard lineup has support for the upcoming AMD Threadripper 3990X, this new motherboard has been designed specifically for overclocking.

The Alpha is pretty much identical to the original ROG Zenith II Extreme visually, but it makes use of a new VRM configuration. This new configuration is a 16-phase CPU VRM with Infineon TDA21490 power-stages. These replace the TDA21472 power-stages on the original board and could possibly increase output current from 70 A to 90 A. This change could slightly increase the price of the board, besides that the feature-set of the board is identical.
