ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 HERO BTF Featuring Integrated 600W GPU Power Connector Launched For €799

ASUS is innovating to enhance contemporary systems with enhanced aesthetics and simplified setup processes. The BTF (Back to the Future) series represents a step in this direction, incorporating rear-facing connectors on motherboards. While similar systems are currently offered by specific system integrators, ASUS is pushing the boundaries by introducing premium products that eliminate the need for 12VHWPR power connectors when using GPUs.

One drawback of the BTF series is its dependency on specialized cases capable of accommodating cables in alternative positions. Additionally, participation in the “Advanced BTF” program, featuring a proprietary GPU connector, necessitates the use of a unique GPU exclusively produced by ASUS.

The Z790 HERO BTF features a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot tailored for top-tier graphics cards, complemented by a high-power slot capable of supplying up to 600 watts of power to BTF graphics cards. However, this isn’t a significant concern since the connector can be left unconnected to the GPU, allowing any standard GPU to function normally. Moreover, ASUS has devised a solution for integrating BTF GPUs into standard motherboards, ensuring that neither option dictates the necessity of a specific motherboard or GPU.

The ROG Maximus Z790 Hero BTF stands as a top-tier motherboard, leveraging the esteemed Z790 Dark Hero board as its foundation—a refined premium design launched alongside the Intel 13th Gen Core+ CPUs. Likewise, the BTF variant boasts WiFi-7 support, Q-Code and Q-LED diagnostic LEDs, and an enhanced 20+1+2 power stage configuration, delivering up to 90 AMPS of power.

The ROG Maximus Z790 Hero BTF motherboard is currently on sale at French retailer LDLC for €799, representing a €110 (16%) uptick from the standard version. Opting for the BTF series becomes particularly advantageous when purchasing all compatible hardware, albeit this may lead to brand exclusivity due to the absence of third-party alternatives.
