Tests
I first calibrate the monitor by resetting it to factory defaults and running the Windows 7 display calibration tool. Then, using Everest’s Monitor Diagnotics suite, we focus on eight graphical tests:
- Brightness/Contrast
- Sharpness
- Dot
- Black fill
- Color palette fill
- Color palette fill, flipped
- White text on black fill
- Black text on white fill
These pictures are about the best I can do to show how attractive this screen is. It’s likely one of the better screens I’ve seen and certainly the clearest of the ones I’ve reviewed.
The black level is really quite close to black, closer than my Dell 2007FPW. There’s a little bit of light bleed from the bottom, though. The two palette tests show excellent vibrance and rich color.
I read a lot of text on my monitors and use them for coding, so text clarity is incredibly important. It’s very, very good on this ASUS display!
