Installation
We will be installing the Dark Rock 3 inside of our X79 system, which actually is the easiest as this method does not require a backplate. The first thing you are going to want to do is install the mounting brackets on the bottom of the cooler like you see in the photo below.
From there install the four attachment screws to the LGA2011 socket and apply the included thermal paste.
Now you will position the cooler over your CPU and line up the mounting brackets with the attachment screws. Once you have them lined up use the included nuts and wrench to secure the cooler. I did not have too much trouble with this method, but you are for sure going to have to remove your memory to get the cooler installed. Also it takes a little while to completely tighten the nuts because you have to keep on removing the wrench and starting over.
Even with the fan installed there is more than enough room for memory on either side of the cooler.
