Braven BRV-1 Overview
The Braven BRV-1 was actually smaller than what I expected. Compared to most Bluetooth speakers that are a rectangle shape, the BRV-1 is more like a square. Its official dimensions are 4.75in x 3.25in x 2.25in.
We received the grey / white / cyan version of the BRV-1 but it also comes in these color options: black / black, black / orange, black / yellow, and black / cyan. The colors contrast each other and give a very cool look to the speaker. The speaker has a very rugged design to it and has a thick rubber outer coating. This rough exterior matched with the IPX7 waterproof rating means that this speaker will be able to handle the elements.
At the front of the BRV-1 is of course the speaker, which happens to be a 6W speaker. This should provide powerful enough sound for a room or say outside at the beach or around a campfire.
At the top of the speaker is where you will find all of your controls. On the right side you will find your volume up and down buttons. On the opposite side you have a power button and play / pause button. The power button also doubles as a pairing button.
Moving around to the back of the speaker you will find a cap then when removed reveals all of your connections. The cap is of course what will keep water and other elements out of those connections. With that cap removed we have a microUSB port for charging, USB port for charging a device, and a 3.5mm audio in port. There is also a battery button that when pressed will light up the LEDs back here and let you know how much battery is left. The reset button will set the speaker back to its factory defaults.
On the bottom of the unit there are four rubber feet that will keep the speaker in place wherever you plan on using it at.
