Corsair LS100 Overview & Setup
So the first thing you’ll notice about the LS100 strips is that they are unlike most RGB strips that you’ve seen before. They are much larger and Corsair has done a smart thing and actually covered the LEDs with a large diffuser. Coming out of each end of each strip are wires to connect the strip to the controller and to daisy-chain to the next strip. These are not your typical RGB or ARGB connectors, they are proprietary to Corsair, just like you’ll find on their fans.
On the bottom of each strip are movable magnetic mounts. They easily slide up and down each strip for proper placement. They are only magnetic on the bottom, which is worth noting as you can only mount these strips from the bottom, not the side or anything like that.
The LS100 is made not only for a back of a monitor, but can also be placed around your desk. We decided to place them around our desk. We initially wanted to place them on the edge of our desk, but we decided against that as the design of the strips would make them look a little weird because they are so thick. So we decided to mount them on the bottom of our desk. The first thing I would suggest doing is running the strips to make sure they will fit where you want them and connect them to make sure everything is working properly.
With everything working properly it is time to mount the strips to the bottom of our desk. Corsair includes small magnetic squares that have 3M adhesive on the back of them. The easiest way to install each strip is mount the squares on the bottom of each strip and then take the adhesive backing off. Keep in mind that the ends of each strip are not magnetic. With the adhesive off each square carefully place the strip where you want it and it should stay in place. One thing you might notice is that the strips will fall off easily if you bump them, but once you have them installed you really shouldn’t have any issues.
The RGB controller mounts pretty much the same way and can be placed pretty much anywhere. You just want to make sure it is close enough for you to connect it to your PC with the included USB cable. The controller has two channels and the total number of RGB LEDs that it can control is 192 LEDs. Besides the two RGB cables and USB cable you’ll need to connect it to power as well.
