Crucial P5 Plus (Heatsink) Gen4 NVMe Solid State Drive Review

Crucial P5 Plus (Heatsink) Overview

The Crucial P5 Plus is your standard M.2 2280 (80mm) drive. The heatsink is all black and has the Crucial logo on it, I think this drive will go well with most builds as it is black.

Flipping the drive over we can see that the heatsink wraps around the entire drive. On the bottom of the drive you’ll find a sticker with all of your information information on it.

The heatsink itself is pretty low profile, so if you are installing it in a motherboard it is not going to interfere with your graphics card or other expansion slots. There are grooves cut into the heatsink so if you happen to have air flowing over the drive it will help with cooling. There are screws on each side of the drive that hold the heatsink in place. You can easily disasemble the drive, which is nice if you eventually get a motherboard with its own M.2 heatsinks or might want to use the drive in a portable SSD enclosure.

As I mentioned this drive is a completely in-house drive from Crucial. So we have Micron’s 176-layer TLC NAND, LPDDR4 DRAM cache, and their proprietary NVMe controller.
