Final Thoughts
While DeepCool seems to be making all the right moves as a company, the Gammaxx S40 doesn’t seem to be one of them. It is certainly a nice compact unit, but at the end of the day if it can’t keep the CPU cool does it really matter?
We liked how easy the cooler was to install, and the fit and finish was great. Unfortunately a too quiet, underperforming fan and lackluster thermal paste are the S40’s Achilles heel.
The cooler is available through online sources at around the $40 USD mark. While this is fairly cheap, there are too many better options for less that will perform better and won’t need upgrades to get the performance you pay for. If you still must have the S40, look for better thermal paste and more powerful fan to get better results.
ThinkComputers.org would like to award the DeepCool Gammaxx S40 with a score of 6 out of 10.

Pros:
– Easy installation
– Quiet
– Fit and Finish
Cons:
– Subpar performance

Reviews from other sources (e.g. http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/4312/6x-deepcool-cpu-cooler-review-strong-newcomer) show that this cooler achieves fair cooling performance – not a killer, but definitely a lot better than the Intel stock cooler.
This suggests that your test rig or procedure was flawed – you may not have installed the cooler correctly, and apparently didn’t bother to double-check when the performance was terrible.
“Underperforming and lacklustre” is an excellent description of this review. Please do better next time.
The link you mention does not reference the the Gammaxx S40, there is a GammaXX 300 there, but it is a different cooler, less heatpipes and a different block design…
Here are two more reviews of the GammaXX S40:

Both articles again very much saying the contrary of what is claimed here…
