Drop + The Lord of the Rings Elvish Keyboard Review

Drop + The Lord of the Rings Elvish Keyboard Overview

Taking a first look at the keyboard we have a tenkeyless form factor, which is quite popular with gamers as well a typists alike. As I mentioned earlier the keyboard is based off Drop’s own ENTR keyboard, but obviously a lot has been changed to make this a very unique keyboard.

We have the Elvish version of the keyboard which has a very unique green color to it with keycaps to match. The green top casing has artwork of the Two Trees of Valinor done by Olivia Shetler (OSHETART) around the main arrow keys.

Most of the keycaps on the keyboard have a sort of cream color to them, while the others are the same color green as the top casing. I do feel like these colors go together well and really match the Elvish theme. The main legends on the keyboard are translations of corresponding Sindarin terms and Tengwar characters of the Lord of the Rings universe. Don’t worry though as most of the keycaps have a smaller legend for their proper corresponding key.

These keycaps are made of thick PBT and are in the MT3 profile, which is very close to SA, so they are much taller keycaps than you might be used to. Instead of a normal concave shape at the top they have more of a divot which your finger will sink into.

With the keycaps removed we can see those Drop Holy Panda X switches, which are a nice upgrade from the normal Gateron switches that come with the default ENTR keyboard. For those unfamiliar these are tactile switches optimized for an authentic feel. Unfortunately these switches are soldered into place so you can’t swap them out if you wanted to try a different switch.

At the top-edge of the board you’ll find a USB-C connection for the included cable. Looking at the top edge of the keyboard we can really see how tall the keycaps are.

Flipping the keyboard over we can see the main shell of the keyboard is made of anodized aluminum, which of course is green as well. In the center we find the Drop + The Lord of the Rings logo. There are two pop-out feet, which give you a one level of adjustment for the keyboard. There are also two rubber feet at the bottom edge of the keyboard which help keep it in place and protect the surface you have the keyboard on.
