Fractal Design Torrent Compact Case Review

A Look Inside

Taking a look inside the Torrent Compact we have a pretty simple design. The main side of the case is made to show off your motherboard and graphics card. The case does support mini-ITX, micro ATX, ATX, and even E-ATX motherboards (up to 274mm).

The motherboard tray has a large CPU cutout as well as two main cable routing holes (with rubber inserts) and a cutout towards the top for your CPU power cable and a small one at the bottom.

The bottom of the case is quite open and you have support for three 120 mm, or two 140 mm, or radiators up to 280 mm. You can also install two 180 mm fans if you plan to install a micro ATX case. Unlike the original Torrent the bottom of the case does not feature a removable cooling bracket so you’ll more than likely have to remove the feet of the case to install fans here.

Visible from inside the main compartment of the case is the top power supply mount. It has the same ARGB strip that we saw on the original Torrent.

Removing the opposite side panel of the case we can see how the rear of the case is designed. On thing I noticed immediately is that there is not a lot of space between the back of the motherboard tray and the back panel of the case. Fractal Design cases have always been known to have plenty of space for routing cables behind the motherboard tray, things are going to be a little tight here.

Towards the bottom of the case you’ll find three 2.5-inch hard drive trays. These trays are made of metal and are easily removed from the case by a single thumbscrew. Towards the front of the case you’ll find the Nexus 9P Slim fan hub. This hub allows you to control up to nine PWM fans using a single 4-pin header to your motherboard.

As far as cable management on the back of the motherboard tray there is a main cable guide channel with two velcro ties as well as a third on the back of the motherboard tray itself. There is also an interesting cable guide towards the front of the case with the Fractal Design logo on it and six more tie-down points for use with the included cable ties.
