G.SKILL KM250 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Final Thoughts

When I first heard about the KM250 RGB I was quite surprised at the price. I fully mechanical keyboard with PBT pudding keycaps, hot-swappable key switches, and RGB backlighting for only $39.99! There had to be some type of catch, and I would say with this keyboard there definitely is. For me the biggest thing is how the keyboard sounds and feels.

The chassis of the keyboard is plastic and we do not have any dampening material or nice stabilizers so the feel of the keyboard just seems cheap compared to some of the more expensive keyboards we’ve reviewed lately. That is not to say this keyboard is not comfortable because it is, and it is going to feel a lot better than a non-mechanical keyboard. It just isn’t going to sound or feel like a high-end keyboard. For those wondering what this keyboard sounds like with its Kailh Red linear switches here is a sound test…

Also there is no software. That means if you want to do any type of remapping or customization you’ll have to rely on 3rd party software. This also makes controlling the lighting a bit more difficult as you have to do it all on the keyboard and you simply cycle through effects, there is no per-key customization.

With that said for the price you really can’t go wrong with this keyboard. You aren’t going to find another keyboard in this price range with all of these features. I mean just a set of PBT pudding keycaps is around $20 by themselves. And don’t forget you are getting real mechanical key switches, a hot-swappable PCB so you can swap at the switches later, and of course the 65% design and volume knob.

I think if you are looking to spend under $50 on a keyboard this is an excellent choice. As I mentioned you can pick this keyboard up at our favorite online retailer for $39.99! Overall ThinkComputers gives the G.SKILL KM250 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard a 9 out of 10 score!
