Final Thoughts on the Gigabyte AORUS 16X

After spending a considerable amount of time with the AORUS 16X I have to say that I like it quite a lot. When it comes to a gaming laptop of course the most important thing is going to be gaming performance. In our testing we easily saw over 60 FPS at both 2560 x 1600 and 1920 x 1200 resolutions, which is quite good for an RTX 4070-based laptop. If you really want to take advantage of the 165 Hz display you will likely have to turn down some graphics settings in your games or enable DLSS, which will drastically improve performance. Overall though, the gaming experience on this laptop is very good.

I really like that Gigabyte went with an IPS display on this laptop, which is going to be excellent for fast-paced gaming. The 165 Hz refresh rate is going to be great as well and while we do see some 240 Hz displays on other laptops, it does not make much sense to have a super-fast display like that on a 4070-based laptop. The screen is quite bright and I think many people will appreciate the 2560 x 1600 resolution as opposed to a 1920 x 1200 screen with a faster refresh rate.

When it coms to port and connectivity Gigabyte has done a great job making sure nothing is missing. You are going to get full-size Ethernet and HDMI ports, which I think should be a requirement for gaming laptops. If WiFi is your thing, the AORUS 16X has the latest WiFi 7 connectivity. There are two USB-A ports, which I love to see as well especially considering most gaming accessories still use Type-A connectors. On the Type-C side of things you are going to get Thunderbolt 4 as well as USB 3.2 gen 2. There is even a MicroSD card reader! I was however a bit disappointed in the power connector, which makes use of a barrel-style connection. This connection actually does not fully go into the laptop, which was a bit odd. I really prefer Type-C or square-type connectors or power.

Like any gaming laptop the fans built into the AORUS 16X will fire up when you are gaming. This is expected, and the fans are decently loud. I would say if you have a gaming headset on you really won’t notice the noise that much. The fans do turn off after your gaming session and during normal operation the laptop is very quiet.

It is also nice to see that you can upgrade this laptop. While many laptops have soldered RAM, here we find SODIMM slots to upgrade your memory and there are two M.2 slots so you can add a second drive yourself or upgrade the original drive to a higher capacity one no problem.

I think that if you are looking for a gaming laptop in this range the AORUS 16X is a very solid choice. Right now you can pick up this exact model that we reviewed today for $1649.00. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Gigabyte AORUS 16X (2024) Gaming Laptop is 9 out of 10 score.
