Overclocking
Ok so I first decided to use the Easy Tune software to overlcock my i7-965. I started at the first quick boost selection (3.36 Ghz), it was stable so I moved up to 3.60 Ghz and it was also stable, so I went for 3.84 Ghz and it was stable, too. I am very impressed with how easy the overclocking is, and that the system was stable with these settings. That is a 640 Mhz overclock done with simple overclocking software.
Obviously using the software is a beginners way to overclock the system. People who want to get the most out of their system will go into the BIOS and do their overclocking from there. My goal was to get to 4.0 GHz, and it was very simple to do. I set the bus speed to 160 MHz and used a multiplier of 25. This put the system at 4.0 Ghz and it was stable! I went up to 4.16 GHz after this but the system was not stable. So the max overclock I was able to achieve with my i7-965 was 4.0 Ghz: that’s an 800 MHz overclock!
