Another new X399 motherboard has been spotted at Computex 2018! These new X399 motherboards are really over the top and this board is no exception. This board is the X399 AORUS Extreme from Gigabyte. This board draws power from two 8-pin EPS connectors as well as a 24-pin ATX power connection. Both of the 8-pin power connections are actually steel reinforced which is pretty cool. It is hard to tell what the VRM is on this board, but expect it to be higher than previous X399 boards as these new boards are designed for Threadripper 2, which will have more CPU cores.
There is a large heatsink that covers the X399 chipset as well as integrates into a M.2 cover. There are a total of three M.2 slots, all of which have M.2 coolers built-in. You have four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots and a single x1 slot. We can also see “ESS Sabre HIFI” printed on the board, which points to the audio tech that Gigabyte is using on this board. Looking around the board we can see six SATA 6GB/s ports, two USB 3.0 headers, a internal USB 3.1 header, and a POST code display, although there is no power and rest buttons on the board.
Looking at the rear I/O we do have an integrated I/O shield. As far as buttons and connections go you have clear CMOS and power buttons, eight USB 3.0 ports, WiFi antenna connections, dual Gigabit Ethernet, 10G Ethernet, two USB 3.1 ports (1x type-A, 1x type-C), and audio connections.
On the back of the board is reinforced steel plate which has the AORUS logo on it.
Of course being an AORUS board you have some RGB lighting, here are some shots of the RGBs in action.
