HyperX Cloud MIX Headset Review

HyperX Cloud MIX Overview
Taking a first look at the HyperX MIX headset we can see that it keeps the same “Cloud” design that we’ve seen on the other headsets. Although with this headset we have an all black design with white “HyperX” logos on the earcups. I think that HyperX removed the red that we saw on the Cloud Alpha as they want this headset to appeal to more than just gamers. Overall though, the headset looks and feels great.

Getting right into the earcups this headset features 40 mm drivers (compared to 50 mm of the Cloud Alpha). The smaller drivers are likely because this headset is made to be used with mobile devices. These drivers are HyperX’s dual chamber drivers, which are designed to provide more distinction and less distortion. Around each earcup is a padded leatherette cover on top of memory foam. These earcups are designed to fully enclose your ears, which is of course ideal for gaming as well as blocking out sound that you might encounter on that plane or bus ride.

On each earcup you’ll notice a few buttons and connections. On the left earcup is a Bluetooth multi-function button, 3.5 mm audio connection, and the microphone port for the detachable microphone. On the right earcup are the volume up and down buttons, a status LED, power / pairing button, and a microUSB port for charging. While microUSB charging ports are very common, it would have been nice to see a type-C connection here.

The HyperX headphone design is characterized by a steel frame design, which speaks to the quality of this headset. It is definitely not a headset that you have to worry about exploding when you drop it. The headband is adjustable by pulling the headphone down, I have a larger head and I had not problem getting the Cloud MIX on comfortably.

The headband has memory foam on it as well, which should provide a comfortable fit for long gaming sessions. There is also a HyperX logo on the top side of the headband.

Because of the design of the headphones they are not able to be laid flat, which is sort of a bummer, especially if I plan on using these as my mobile headphones.
