Intel’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, recently spoke at the Intel Accelerate webcast sharing the changes in node naming and the arrival of new products based on these new nodes. The executive also revealed that Intel will host another event named Intel InnovatiON from October 27th to 28th. The event will take place both in San Francisco physically and virtually, which was commented by Pat as ‘fully hybrid,’ clearly suggesting that the event will also cover Alder Lake’s hybrid technology.
During the event, Intel also confirmed that Alder Lake and Sapphire Rapids will utilize the Intel 7, which previously was referred to as 10nm Enhanced SuperFin. Intel has promised a 10 to 15% improvement in transistors performance per watt in comparison to the existing 10nm SuperFin node.
Intel Alder Lake, aka 12th Gen Core CPU series, will have Hybrid Technology that will combine high-efficiency (small) and high-performance (big) cores. Although Intel has never confirmed Alder Lake series specifications, a recent leak states that it will have 8 big cores and 8 small cores, offering up to 16 core configurations with the full package.
The 12 gen core series will be compatible with both the DDR5 and DDR4 RAMs. It will also be the first mainstream desktop CPU series to support PCI Express Gen5 standard. Alder Lake will be followed by a refresh called the Raptor Lake-S, which will arrive after AMD releases its Zen4 architecture.
