Intel Core i7-4790K Devil’s Canyon Processor Review

Power Consumption & Temperatures
Power consumption for a system is of course very important. To measure power consumption I used a killawatt meter. The idle test is taken on the Windows 7 desktop and the load test is taken while running Heaven Benchmark in a loop.

power

As expected the power consumption was only 4W difference between the processors. The i7-4770K has a max TDP of 84W whereas the i7-4790K has a max TDP of 88W.

To measure temperatures we used coreTemp. Idle temperatures were taken on the Windows 7 desktop and load temperatures were taken when running Prime95.

temps

As expected the Core i7-4790K does run a bit hotter during load. This is because it is clocked much higher than the Core i7-4770K.
