Intel to Drop Processor Pricing by 15% in Response to Ryzen 3000 Series

Intel will be going head to head against AMD in the desktop processor business, especially with AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen Desktop processors launching in just a couple of weeks. With this launch Intel’s 9th generation Core processors may lose their competitiveness against AMD’s offerings. We will have to wait till 2020 to see Intel’s “Ice Lake” desktop processors, so Intel’s immediate response to AMD’s 3rd generation Ryzen processors will be a series of price-cuts.

According to DigiTimes, Intel plans to cut prices of their 9th generation Core processors by a minimum of 10% and a maximum of 15%, varying by SKUs. This means that the very popular Core i9-9900K, i7-9700K, and i5-9600K could drop by $25 to $75. AMD is launching the Ryzen 9 3900X, Ryzen 7 3800X, and Ryzen 5 3600X to compete directly with those three Intel SKUs and according to AMD these chips match them at gaming and beat them at content-creation tasks.
