On September 21, Microsoft plans to deliver an update for its Surface product lineup. This information comes from a recent leak that additionally verifies the presence of NVIDIA’s RTX 40 graphics within these systems.
The Studio 2 won’t undergo a substantial enhancement for its 14.4-inch screen. The 3:2 aspect ratio display, with its 2400×1600 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate support, will stay identical to the current Studio model. It continues to rely on PixelSense technology, ensuring precise input through the stylus.
Under the hood, there’s an upgrade to both the CPU and GPU components. To refresh your memory, the 2021 Surface Laptop Studio featured Intel “Tiger Lake” i5-11300H or i7-11370H CPUs along with either an RTX 3050 Ti or RTX A2000 GPU. In contrast, the Studio 2 will come in two “Raptor Lake” SKUs, specifically the Core i7-13700H (with 14 cores/20 threads, reaching up to 5.0 GHz) and the Core i7-13800H (with 14 cores/20 threads, reaching up to 5.2 GHz). These are 45W TDP mobile processors with a maximum turbo power of 115W.
As for the GPU improvements, the Studio 2 is slated to offer a choice between the GeForce RTX 4050 and RTX 4060 graphics. It’s important to note that these are laptop GPU versions with distinct specifications compared to their desktop counterparts (notably, there’s no RTX 4050 desktop SKU). Consequently, the Studio 2 will utilize the AD107 GPU, available in configurations with either 2560 or 3072 CUDA cores. These GPUs also come with memory configurations of 6GB on a 96-bit bus or 8GB on a 128-bit bus.
A significant enhancement in memory choices is the introduction of a 64GB LPDDR5X configuration. The existing Studio model provides options of 16 or 32GB of memory. Additionally, Microsoft plans to incorporate a Micro-SD slot and a USB Type-A connector into the system, both of which were absent in the 2021 model.
In terms of pricing, according to WinFuture, the entry-level variant, which doesn’t include a discrete GPU and relies on Intel Xe graphics, is expected to be priced at 2249 EUR. The model equipped with an RTX 4050 will be available for 2729 EUR, and the version featuring the RTX 4060 along with 32GB of system memory is set to start at 3199 EUR.
Users can readily discover more powerful laptops designed specifically for content creation, offering superior displays and graphics. However, these options won’t resemble the tablet/laptop hybrid that the Studio 2 aims to be. For instance, the Gigabyte AERO 16 OLED system, equipped with an i7-13700H, RTX 4070, and a 4K OLED panel, is currently available for $1999. If users prefer smaller screens, they might consider the ASUS Zenbook Duo 14, which boasts dual screens (14.5″ + 12.7″), an i9-13900H CPU, and RTX 4060 graphics, all for $2399.
