This year at Computex we are expecting to see new motherboards based on Intel’s upcoming Z390 chipset, but MSI is showing off a new X399 motherboard. Not just any X399 motherboard, their most outrageous X399 motherboard yet, the MEG X399 Creation. Taking a first look at the board you can see what we mean, this board is definitely larger than ATX, likely an E-ATX board.
The board has very aggressive heatsinks, in which you have a massive L-shaped heatsink that sits towards the bottom-right corner of the board. It covers the AMD X399 chipset as well as three M.2 slots. The top heatsinks are some of the largest VRM heatsinks we’ve seen an a while.
The VRM is a 19-phase getting power from two 8-pin EPS connectors and a 24-pin ATX power connection. There are four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots, eight DDR4 DIMM slots, up to seven M.2 slots, as well as power and reset buttons on the board itself.
Looking at the rear I/O we can see reset CMOS and reset buttons, six USB 3.0 ports, four USB 3.1 ports, dual Ethernet ports, WiFi antenna connections, and your audio connections. Both Ethernet and WiFi are powered by Intel controllers.
