As we discussed in our preliminary Radeon 5870 review, on ATI’s horizon ATI was a follow-up to the Radeon HD 4870 X2, code-named “Hemlock XT”, which in essence would put together a pair of Radeon HD 5870 GPUs on a single PCB. Today AMD is officially unveiling the Hemlock as the new ATI Radeon HD 5970, hoping to expand its current dominance in single-GPU performance with the fastest single-slot graphics card on the market — a title that until today was reserved for Nvidia’s dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295. The Radeon HD 5970 looks to be well suited for the job. The GPUs used in this card use exactly the same configuration found on the Radeon HD 5870, while core and memory frequencies match those of the Radeon HD 5850. This provides the HD 5970 with an unmatched memory bandwidth of 256GB/s.

I doubt I'll be buying one of these anytime soon.NCIX lists them at $699.99!
Never mind the price, you need to find one first.

Crap, that's pretty damn expensive, but i bet they'll sell out quick nevertheless. There's always some1 willing to pay top dollar for the latest and greatest.

Word is that they sold out on day 1.

i'm sure they did. A lot of computer enthusiasts out there.
Its not only that, ATI can't keep up with the demand. Even the Hd5850 and HD5870 are hard to come by.

Yea, it's also because of the limited supply of cards available, but it's smart to control the supply, they can keep the prices high.

They usually don't make huge amounts of cards like this. After all, who can afford them.
The prices would be high not matter if the card was more available or not.
But this time around ATI didn't expect the demand to shoot through the roof.
you'd be suprised at how many people are willing to purchase these types of products regardless of if they can afford them or not. Some will buy it even if they can't afford it
The demand is still up there.
