Next Tomb Raider Game Will Be Based On Unreal Engine 5

Earlier today Crystal Dynamics studio took to the stage at the “State of Unreal 2022” event and announced the start of the development of the next chapter in the Tomb Raider franchise. It is one lucky day as Epic Games has also announced that it will be launching the Unreal Engine 5 game engine. We have seen this engine in a couple of demos already and the developers have already got their hands on it for quite some time now.

Many game studios have announced that they will be making use of this engine for developing their games, Crystal Dynamics being one of them. It has been confirmed that the next chapter in the Tomb Raider series will be using Unreal Engine 5. We are still guessing, but it might be possible that this new chapter is a continuation of the 2018 Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Let us wait and see till the developers announce the official name of the new chapter.

It isn’t unusual anymore for game studios to ditch their own engines and go for latest ones and especially those which are supported by multiple developers. Tomb Raider will also be following a similar trend, where it will abandon its very own Foundation engine and use the UE5 instead. CD Project Red also announced that their new Witcher game will also be using the UE5.
