The first photos of the GeForce GTX 1080 reference PCB has been posted online. NVIDIA is selling this reference design as their “Founders Edition” card with a $100 premium. Taking a look at the pictures we can see that the GTX 1080 PCB is far less crowded than the GTX 980 reference PCB. It looks like we have a 6-phase VRM with DrMos chips, drawing power from a single 8-pin PCI-Express power connector.
The 16 nm GP104 ASIC has a smaller die than the one featured on the 28 nm GM204. Around the chip we have eight 8 Gbit GDDR5X memory chips, which also come in smaller packages than the normal GDDR5 chips.
