Patriot Viper PVP30 Portable SSD Overview
Taking a first look at the Viper PVP30 you’ll be surprised that it is actually the size of a real flash drive. I’ve reviewed and have seen many portable SSDs try and make a smaller drive but they all end up being larger than a typical flash drive. The Viper PVP30 however is the actual size of a flash drive! If you are wondering the actual dimensions are 3.23″ (L) x 0.67″ (W) x 0.39″.
Another thing that I noticed about the PVP30 when I first picked it up was that it was decently heavy. That is because Patriot has gone with a Zinc Alloy housing. This not only protects the drive, but also gives some heat dissipation to the components inside.
On one side of the drive there is a Patriot Viper logo and on the other it says “PVP30” and lists the capacity. While many will think this is just a USB flash drive there is actually an SSD, which Patriot has designed to work on USB. So think of an enclosure with a built-in USB cable so you won’t have to ever worry about forgetting your cable. Patriot is also making use of an advanced design as t he PCIe M.2 controller has a USB 3.2 bridge in a single chip.

If you haven’t noticed from the previous photos the PVP30 does offer both USB-C and USB-A connectivity. You simply flip the connector around to choose what connection you want to use. Again, the build quality here is excellent, especially compared to other similar drives I’ve had the chance to take a look at. Being that this drive does support USB-C you can easily plug it right into the bottom of your mobile device and for iPhone users you do get support for Apple ProRes.

When will it be available to buy in the USA? And which physical/online retailers?
