Final Thoughts on the Patriot Viper PVP30 Portable SSD

Having fast portable storage is something that it seems we all need these days, whether you need a mobile editing drive, game drive, drive for your mobile device, or you just need to transfer files between machines. While portable SSDs are nothing new it is great to see a very high quality portable SSD that has the same form factor as a flash drive. I think that is the important thing here, flash drives take a beating and I’m glad that Patriot went with a Zinc Alloy design for the Viper PVP30.

On top of the solid design you have quite fast speeds of up to 1000 MB/s. That type of speed means fast transfers and the ability to run games and apps directly from the drive. I really like that you also get dual connections on this drive. So if you have an older system that only has USB-A you are covered. The USB-C port means that you are able to connect this drive up to a mobile device which is for sure needed when it comes to recording ProRes footage on an iPhone.

The only real concern with this drive is that at least one of the USB ports on the drive will be exposed at all times. While I’ve never had an issue with drives that are designed like this, it is something to keep in mind.

As far as pricing goes the 512GB will be $45.99, the 1TB will be $72.99, and the will be 2TB $132.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot Viper PVP30 Portable SSD a 9 out of 10 score and Recommended Award!
