Patriot Viper VP4300 2TB Gen4 Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

Well it looks like we have a new king of Gen4 NVMe solid state drives as the Patriot Viper VP4300 is the fastest solid state drive that we’ve ever tested! For the 2TB variant that we reviewed today Patriot advertises sequential speeds of 7400 MB/s read and 6800 MB/s write. In our testing we were able to get very close to those numbers. In CrystalDiskMark 8 we achieved a read score of 7130.15 MB/s and write score of 6751.06 MB/s. On the other hand in ATTO Disk Benchmark things were a little slower at 6670 MB/s read and 6340 MB/s write. Even not hitting its advertised speeds it is still the fastest drive we’ve tested in these benchmarks.

Beyond the speeds of the drive another thing I really liked is that Patriot provides different cooling options. You can use the bare drive with the M.2 heatsinks on your motherboard. Install the graphene heatshield then use the M.2 heatsinks on your motherboard. Use the included heatsink or use the graphene heatshield with the included heatsink. Both the included heatsink and heatshield are easy to install and are very attractive.

As you can see from our results the VP4300 get a very nice bump in performance over Patriot’s first Gen4 drive, the VP4100. This is of course due to the Innogrit IG5236 Gen4 controller. While we haven’t heard of Innogrit before the performance that we are seeing here shows they have a very bright future.

Compared to say the Samsung 980 Pro the VP4300 does not come with any type of software or even an SSD Toolbox.

Right now the 2TB version of the drive is selling at our favorite online retailer for $479.99, while the 1TB is $244.49. Patriot is also backing the drive up with a 5-year warranty. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot Viper VP4300 2TB Gen4 Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
