PNY XLR8 REV RGB DDR4-3600 16GB Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned in the beginning of this review DDR4 is here to stay, at least for another generation so it is good to see a new kit from PNY. When it comes to performance the XLR8 REV RGB with its speed of 3600 MHz and timings of 19-20-20-40 at 1.35V it did quite well in our tests. Although you really are not going to be able to push this memory much further. We were able to get a stable overclock up to 3800 MHz by loosening the timings a bit, but the 200 MHz overclock with loosened timings really is not going to give you much of anything and we would suggest leaving the kit at its XMP profile.

It terms of design PNY changed things up a bit from their Epic-X RGB that we reviewed a while back. I think that the heatsink design is better and I like the more flat RGB diffuser, which just looks cleaner and you’ll have less issues with clearance. But this diffuser does not diffuse the RGBs all that much as each individual LED is definitely visible.

Right now the 3600 MHz 16GB kit (MD16GK2D4360018X2RGB) that we reviewed today is selling at our favorite online retailer for $75.20 with the 32GB 3600 MHz kit being $123.99. I think these prices are good considering the performance and quality of the memory. Overall ThinkComputers gives the PNY XLR8 REV RGB DDR4-3600 16GB Memory Kit an 8 out of 10 score.
