According to a news post over at TechPowerUp, NVIDIA is preparing a refresh of the GTX 1070, expected to be known as the GTX 1070 Ti. This would probably place this new card in between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 in performance, and possibly price. It could also be poised to replace the 1070 altogether, while also setting its sights on dominating AMD’s Radeon RX Vega 56 by providing a better performacne to power efficiency ratio.
We would expect the 1070 Ti to come with both higher clock speeds and more memory bandwidth to keep performance levels high. Rumors of the new card using GDDR5X has some folks excited for what that could mean for GPU prices, as GDDR5X is not as effective in cryptocurrency mining, and could help keep this card near MSRP levels.
