Samsung To Die-Shrink NVIDIA Pascal Down To 14nm

We were not sure if NVIDIA would be skipping the 14nm node to go down to 10nm, but it looks like they will in fact make use of the 14nm node. Even though NVIDIA met its energy-efficient targets with its 16nm FinFET node on the Pascal architecture, the company has reportedly concluded talks with Samsung Electronics to optically-shrink the GeForce Pascal architecture down to the newer 14nm FinFET node.

It was not made clear if the 14nm FinFET node is for upcoming (unreleased) Pascal GPUs or if this will be a series-wide die-shrink, much like what NVIDIA did between the 65nm and 55nm nodes. The 14nm Samsung-made Pascal GPUs could enter production before the end of the year.
