Scythe Big Shuriken 3 Overview
The Scythe Big Shuriken is a “C” type cooler, albeit a very small one. The official measurements of the cooler with the fan attached are 122 x 122 x 69 mm. The “C” type refers to the overall design of the cooler with a large base that has heatpipes that go up into a larger heatsink creating a “C” shape. Part of the heatsink is wrapped in a metal shroud that does have the Scythe logo on it.
Sitting on top of the cooler you have Scythe’s Kaze Flex 120 Slim PWM fan. This is a very thin fan at only 17 mm. The fan spins between 300 and 1800 RPM, with a noise level of 2.7 – 30.4 dBA. The fan has a black frame with light grey blades, there is also rubber decouplers on the corners to help with vibration noise.
The aluminum cooling fin stack is designed in such a way that it has three different levels. This is to make sure that you have clearance not only for memory, but for motherboard I/O covers as well. So the stack is longer where the CPU base is for increased surface area.
There are a total of five nickel-plated copper heatpipes that make their way from the base up into the heatsink. Each one of these heatpipes go into the heatsink at a different location for the best heat transfer across the heatsink.
The base of the cooler is quite thick and made of nickel-plated copper. While it does have a very nice finish to it we can definitely see marks from the machining process.
