Autonomous SmartDesk 2 Hybrid Edition Review

I’ve been a fan of Autonomous’s SmartDesk 2 ever since I first reviewed it back in 2017. While this was my first sit-stand desk, it actually remained my main desk up until about a week ago. There were other desks that we’ve reviewed, but they just were not as good as the desk from Autonomous, that is why I always kept that desk as my main desk. Since I started using that desk I’ve made some upgrades to my setup, namely a 34-inch ultra-wide display. With that display I really was not able to put my computer on my desk, which made me either put it on the floor or on a shelf next to the desk. I was actually considering just upgrading my tabletop to a larger one when Autonomous reached out about reviewing their SmartDesk 2 Hybrid Edition. They let me select which version I wanted so I went with the white XL Top (70.5″ x 30″) with a white frame. This would give me more than enough room for my computer as well as monitor. Is this the desk you need for the ultimate PC setup? Read on to find out!

Note: Autonomous has since changed the name of this desk from “Hybrid Edition” to “Home Office”.

Special thanks to Autonomous for sending over their SmartDesk 2 Home Office to review.

My Configured Desk

smart desk2 order

As you can see I went with Autonomous’s SmartDesk 2 Hybrid Edition with a white XL top and white frame. This configuration is only $429, which is very affordable, even for a student. With the normal-sized top the desk would only be $349. Autonomous also offers a full 30-day trial, so if you are unhappy with the desk for any reason they will pay for shipping the desk back and give you a full refund. Each desk also comes with the 5-year warranty for the frame and a 1-year warranty for the tabletop.

Packaging & Assembly

The Autonomous SmartDesk 2 Hybrid Edition will come in two boxes, you’ll have the tabletop and then a box that has the frame and all of the accessories.

As you open up the boxes there is one thing you are definitely going to want to do. Keep the table top on top of the cardboard box it came in. The worst thing that could happen would be for you to scratch up the tabletop before you even start using it. I found this out the hard way building my second sit-stand desk a couple of years ago!

This desk took about 25 minutes to get all together, you will need a screwdriver, which is not included with the desk. All of the holes are pre-drilled so a normal screwdriver will work, but having a powered drill will definitely speed up the process. Autonomous provides great directions that are very easy to follow. The desk is pretty heavy once assembled and in our case with the XL tabletop is quite large so you are going to want to put it together close to where you’ll be using it.
