SilverStone Grandia Series GD08 HTPC Case Review

Grandia Series GD08 Overview
The Grandia Series GD08 has your typical HTPC case design to it (think of a tower put on its side).  The actual dimensions of the case are 440mm(W) x 175mm(H) x 425mm(D).  We received the black version of the case, which for now is the only color the GD08 is available in.

Starting at the front of the case you have a nice brushed aluminum front bezel.  The front bezel is the only part of the case that is made out of aluminum the rest of the case is made out of SECC steel.  Starting on the right side you have two 5.25-inch drive bays that have covers on them so you can keep the sleek look of your case.  Below those 2 bays you have 2 USB 3.0 ports and your audio connections.  On the let you have 2 square buttons, one is your power button and the other one is reset. On the bottom front of the case is a small slider that will allow you to adjust the brightness of the LED’s on the case. This is perfect for a home theater setup as you don’t want a bright light blinding you when you are trying to watch a movie!

On the top of the case there is a small ventilation section towards the back that will go right over your motherboard when it is installed.  On the right side panel on the case there is a removable fan filter.  This sits where your power supplies fan will be.  The removable fan filter will make it very easy to clean up dust that will accumulate there.

On the opposite side of the case you have another larger fan filter.  Behind this filter is a 120mm intake fan and a spot for a second 120mm fan if you wish to install one.

On the back of the case you can see how everything is set up.  It is much like a PC with the power supply mounted on the bottom that would be turned on its side.  There is an expansion slot above all of the normal expansion slots where you can install a slot cooler or even a fan controller.  There is also room for two 80mm fans, but they are not included.

Flipping the case over on the bottom are 4 large feet.  Towards the front of the case are 2 large fan filters.  When you remove them they reveal two 120mm fans with room for one more.
