SilverStone TD02-Slim Liquid CPU Cooler Review

SilverStone TD02-Slim Overview
Removing all the bags and taking the hardware and mounting parts from the box we find that everything is in perfect condition without a scratch. The white cardboard box contains a full set of screws and hardware for all relatively modern AMD and Intel sockets. Although the unit ships with Intel mounting brackets installed, there is also a set for AMD that should be easy enough to swap out. It also holds a 4 pin Y splitter to allow you to run the two fans off one header, as well as a molex to 4 pin adapter, and a small plunger tube of SilverStone labelled thermal material.

The main feature of the TD02-Slim is of course that it should have a very small profile. This requires the use of some pretty thin fans. The pair included in the kit are 120mm x 15mm SilverStone APA1215M12 12V models. They claim 1.84mmH20 of static pressure at 2200rpm while creating only 27.4dBa of noise in the process. For a 15mm thick fan if they can live up to those numbers they should actually be fairly impressive. Keep in mind that since the radiator is thin as well, less pressure is required while the 2200rpms should be enough to move the 35.85CFMs that SilverStone says they can. One thing that was a little disappointing was the lack of sleeving on the fans. The multicolored pattern left them looking a little mid nineties.

From the hardware and fans we’ll go ahead and move to the main event, the cooler itself. Unlike TD02-Slim’s bigger sibling, this AiO features an all plastic pump housing. It is made up of a series of shades of black and features a silver SilverStone logo on the top of the pump. Impossible to see there are actually small slits around the outside of the logo where LED lighting can shine through. The mounting brackets attach via Philips head screws to the side of the pump housing and are easily accessed for removal.

The base of the pump ships protected by a sticker. Once removed we find a polished copper surface with only trace machine lines visible. The base is secured to the pump housing by 8 recessed hex screws in the corners. On the business side of the cold plate you should find .2mm wide microchannels providing plenty of surface area for heat transfer.

Two pieces of thick rubber tubing are connected to the pump by a set of swivel fittings. These fittings and the single 3-pin wire are the only protrusions from an otherwise sleek pump housing.

The pump is connected to the radiator via two pieces of flexible 310mm long rubber tubing. Although the tubing doesn’t follow the recent trend of sleeving, we still find that the tubing used here looks great in the nearly all black setup.

When it comes to heat dissipation the TD02-Slim will be depending on really lean 240mm radiator. How thin is it? How about 22mm! This is one of, if not the thinnest radiators we have worked with here at ThinkComputers. It’s actually thinner than most of the fans included with other AiOs. SilverStone really went to extremes to make sure this unit would be mountable in the tightest locations. As well as being ultra thin it also has a nice thick black paint that should be resistant to scratching.
