Is the Sony INZONE H9 II Gaming Headset Worth Picking Up
I’ve been using the Sony INZONE H9 II for the past month across both everyday listening and longer gaming sessions, and it has proven to be an excellent all-around gaming headset. Its biggest strength is easily the audio quality. The 30 mm carbon-composite drivers deliver a clean, detailed sound with enough low-end impact to make explosions and cinematic moments feel powerful without overwhelming the smaller audio cues that matter during competitive play.
The headset performs especially well in shooters, where directional audio makes it much easier to recognize footsteps and determine where they are coming from. Subtle movements, reloads, and other environmental sounds remain distinct even when there is a lot happening at once. Sony also includes 360 Spatial Sound for Gaming and FPS-focused EQ presets, allowing you to further emphasize footsteps and other competitive audio cues through the INZONE Hub software. I really enjoyed this headset while playing Apex Legends.
Active noise cancellation is another standout feature. It does a very good job of reducing steady background noise from PC fans, air conditioners, and other distractions, making it easier to stay focused on the game. Ambient Sound mode is equally useful when you need to remain aware of what is happening around you without removing the headset. The ability to use noise cancellation during both wired and wireless operation also gives the H9 II an advantage over many gaming headsets.
Comfort has been excellent throughout extended use. At approximately 260 grams without the detachable microphone, the H9 II is extremely light for a wireless headset with active noise cancellation. The redesigned suspension-style headband distributes that weight evenly, while the soft fabric ear cushions provide a secure fit without becoming overly warm. Once the headband is properly adjusted, the headset creates very few pressure points, even during long gaming sessions.
The H9 II is also extremely versatile. The included USB-C transceiver provides a low-latency 2.4 GHz connection for PC and PlayStation 5, while Bluetooth support makes it easy to connect to smartphones and other mobile devices. These connections can be used simultaneously, allowing you to hear game audio while remaining connected to your phone for calls or notifications. A detachable 3.5 mm cable adds wired compatibility with even more devices, while the battery provides up to 30 hours of wireless use and supports fast charging when you need to get back into a game quickly.
Now this headset is not without its faults, starting with its price tag. The headset launched at $349.99, but it is currently on discount to $248 on Amazon. Even with this discount this headset is firmly in the premium gaming-headset category. The headband adjustment system also takes some getting used to, as you need to press the locking buttons and adjust each side independently instead of simply extending the earcups. While the headset supports multiple platforms, some of its more advanced features are limited by connection type; the Game/Chat Balance controls are intended primarily for PC, while options such as 360 Spatial Sound, detailed microphone settings, and certain EQ profiles require Sony’s INZONE Hub software. The lightweight plastic construction also does not feel quite as premium as the price might suggest, even though it helps make the headset extremely comfortable. None of these issues are dealbreakers, but they are worth considering before investing in the H9 II.
At the end of the day the Sony INZONE H9 II gives you detailed audio, excellent noise cancellation, low weight, and broad connectivity to make it a strong choice for competitive gamers who also want a headset capable of handling music, movies, calls, and everyday listening. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Sony INZONE H9 II Gaming Headset a 9 out of 10 score.
