HP is a brand you've had to hear of if you been following the PC industry for any length of time. HP has been at times the world's leading PC manufacturer, and who would have thought it all started in a Palo Alto garage. In recent years HP still has a very large PC business, but they also have a very successful flash product division. The way HP solid state drives work is that HP licenses its name to other companies who build the drives, but each drive has to pass through HP's internal qualification testing before it is released. Previous HP solid state drives have gone widely unnoticed as they were more mainstream drives. Well today we are taking a look at the new HP S700 Pro which features the SMI SM2258 controller as well as Micron 3D TLC NAND, the same combination we've seen in many enthusiast 2.5-inch solid state drives. Today we have a new OCZ solid state drive that fits right in the mainstream with that of Crucial's MX300 and Samsung's EVO series in terms of both price and performance. The VX500 is made to replace OCZ's Vector 180 and is made up completely of Toshiba parts with Toshiba's TC358790 controller and Toshiba-made 15nm MLC NAND. It is actually quite interesting to see a MLC-based solid state drive come out now with many companies opting for the less expensive TLC NAND. In any case the OCZ VX500 boasts sequential read and write speeds speeds of 550 MB/s and 510 MB/s respectively and is backed by OCZ's impressive 5-year Shield Plus warranty. Can this new SSD compete with other lower-cost drives out there? Read on as we find out!

Mushkin Reactor 512GB Solid State Drive Review

Today we are taking a look at another solid state drive from Mushkin. This one comes from their Reactor line and is the 512GB version. In the past Mushkin primarily used SandForce controllers with their solid state drives, but this time they have gone with Silicon Motion’s SM2246EN controller. This controller from what we’ve seen is very solid and performs without issue. They have teamed this controller with Micron’s 16nm MLC NAND. This combination gives the 512GB version of the drive a sequential read speed of 560 MB/s and sequential write speed of 460 MB/s with 71K IOPS read and 75K IOPS write. Let’s see what this drive can do.

Crucial MX100 512GB Solid State Drive Review

I have been following technology for quite a while and in that time I have witnessed the birth of solid state drives and many companies bringing them to the masses. When they first came out like all new technology they were very expensive. I remember when many people were debating on getting a new graphics card or a solid state drive. The past couple of years have been kind to the consumer with solid state drives continuing to drop in price. Most people are able to afford a solid state drive for at least their OS drive. The best way to cut costs and keep drives competitive is to decrease the lithography of the NAND that is inside the drive. This is the case for the drive we are taking a look at today. It features Micron’s new 16nm 128Gbit MLC NAND. The drive that I am talking about is the Crucial MX100. The 512 GB version that we are reviewing today is currently selling for a little over $200, which if you can remember that is what most 128GB drives were selling for just a couple of years ago. The MX100 effectively replaces Crucial’s M500 solid state drive while the MX550 still remains as their high performance offering. The 512 GB version of the MX100 offers sequential read and write speeds of 550 MB/s and 500 MB/s respectively. Let’s see what this drive can do!
