The fantastic speed of computer games evolution

We have always been fascinated by computer games. Regardless of our natural interests and abilities, we all have been obsessed with a certain game in some period of our life. Some of us forgot about the games in adulthood, others will remain fans till they get old and grey.

There is something addictive and fun in playing any genre of a game really. At first, we loved the challenge, then with Atari and Nintendo we fell in love with the colors, sounds and the characters, afterward with the PlayStation we finally fell in love with the whole gaming experience. Today, the goal is no less than to actively participate in the game with your body and mind.

With the VR and AR equipment, the gaming experience has gotten extremely fun and interactive. New technologies have shown us that in fact, you can escape the real world with a video game.  You can go out, solve challenges and even have friends in the virtual world.

Computer games are also evolving. Since the appearance of the first desktop PC things has changed drastically for the gaming community.

Nowadays, we all love playing online games and the thrill of competing with people from all around the world.

1952

In 1952 the first graphical computer game was created. Alexander Douglas created the computer game Tic – Tac – Toe on and EDSAC known as OXO. The opponent was always the computer or the AI and you could play the game by using a rotary telephone controller. However, Tic – Tac – Toe was not available for the general public and could only be played at the Cambridge University.

1962

Spacewar! Was released in February 1962 and is considered to be the first video game intended for computers.  The game involves two spaceships each controlled by a player, this game involved battles in galaxies full of stars.

1972

In 1972, the first game console was introduced. Magnavox was publicly available in May that year. Later that year Atari released Pong the first commercial video game. After Atari, everything has changed and started evolving at a very fast pace.

1980

Pacman was released 8 years later at 1980 by NAMCO. It was the highest revenue generating game of all time.

1981

Ultima one was released The First Age of Darkness for PC in 1981 by Origin Systems. The game was very popular because of that they released nine series between 1981 and 1999.

1985

Super Mario Bros for NES console system was released in 1985. The game was a huge hit and sold over 40 million copies as of 1999.

2000

Electronic Arts released SIMS in 2000. Sims became one of the best-selling computer games in history with over 16 million copies sold worldwide.

2011

Star Wars was released by Electronic Arts and LucasArts on December 20, 2011. The game had a million subscribers within three days of release. Star Wars was the fastest growing MMO ever.

These are only just a few events that changed the gaming industry forever. There are a lot of other things that happened in the past that contributed to the evolution.

In the 21st century, games will be all about the VR and AR experience. The future is virtual for the gaming community.
