Thermaltake BigTyp 14 Pro CPU Cooler Review

Overview
The Thermaltake BigTyp 14 Pro is a relatively new CPU cooler on the Thermaltake product line. It features a whopping 12, 6mm copper heatpipes, huge base with 140mm blue LED fan and VR fan controller. While the BigTyp 14 Pro may not be as high as some other CPU coolers it is certainly one of the largest coolers we’ve gotten a chance to review. To support the huge 140mm fan the heatsink actually extends to about 166mm by 155mm.

The heatsink is covered by the 140mm fan which seems to be covered by a cheaply made cover that would seem to break very easily. Like most fans both the casing and the fins are made out of the same material.

The heatsink has a very simple design. Rectangular in shape, the aluminum fins are closely aligned to each other and seem very sturdy. Two sections of approximately 80 fins are what mainly compose the heatsink.

In total there are 12 copper heatpipes, six which run through one set of fins and six that run through the other. There is a relatively short distance of copper piping running from the base of the cooler to the fins allowing for quicker heat distribution. I do fear that they are too close together in the angled pattern. I think Thermaltake could have given a little extra space between them.

The twelve heatpipes run directly into the copper base which also has a highly polished coating. The universal design allows it to work well with both AMD and Intel Socket systems.

The 3 pin power cable has an extra layer of padding to help protect from any damage from fans. The VR Fan Controller is a simple knob attached to a short cable with high and low labels. The only way to change the speed on this fan is to manually alter it by removing the side panel of your case. It would have been nice if Thermaltake threw in a longer cable so that it might be able to stick out the rear of the case slightly.
