Thermaltake MaxOrb EX CPU Cooler Review

Overview
The Thermaltake MaxOrb EX CPU Cooler is a new product on the Thermaltake product line. Built from the success of the MaxOrb the MaxOrb EX extends the maximum cooling effects. From Thermaltake:

“MaxOrb EX is designed with the magical cooling copper structure, copper heatpipes, copper fins, and copper base. The radial Heat-TransferTM Technology does not only allow more efficient heat dissipation, but also decreases the pressure built around the fan blades to minimize noise output. Radial copper fins further create air channels directing the airflow to the surrounding components for additional cooling efforts; thus increasing system stability and overclocking capability.”

The 120mm blue LED fan is surrounded by the radial copper fin design. Looking underneath the fan you can see the additional set of fins which further help disperse heat.

A knob slightly sticking out from the MaxOrb EX allows you to adjust the fan speed ranging from 1300 to 2000 RPM. A side angle view allows us to get a better view of the radial copper fin design. The fins are farther apart along the top than they are along near the bottom of the cooler.

The MaxOrb EX has 6 copper heatpipes of which are evenly distributed throughout the fins for maximum cooling performance. One set runs through the outer set of fins, another set runs between the outer and inner set of fins and the last pair run through the inner set of fins.

All six 6mm heatpipes extend all the way through the large polished copper base. They are capped at the end with a pencil tip shape for about half an inch past the base. The highly polished base gives better heat transfer for optimal cooling of the CPU.
