ASUS has released a teaser of its upcoming high-end desktop motherboard for Xeon W2400/W3400 CPUs. The board features an LGA-4677 socket that is compatible with Intel Sapphire Rapids WS series.
The teaser image also reveals that the motherboard supports up to 8-channel DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen5 M.2 storage, which are key features of the new LGA-4677 platform. Although ASUS has not revealed the name of the board, it is expected to be a successor to the WS C621-64L SAGE motherboard, which was designed for the LGA-3647 socket and Xeon W-3200 series.
The new motherboard is likely to be part of the PRO series and could be a competitor to the WRX80 platform for Ryzen Threadripper PRO CPUs. Based on the price of the WRX80 platform, it is expected that the ASUS W790 PRO motherboard will be similarly priced which is around $950.
