Zalman CNPS12X CPU Cooler Review

Testing
Our test system is comprised of the following items…

Intel Core i7-3820 CPU
Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard
Sapphire Radeon HD6950 Video Card
16GB G.Skill RipjawsZ DDR3 Memory
Thermaltake 1200W Power Supply
750GB SATA Drive
Cooler Master Cosmos II Case

We will be testing the CNPS12X on both the performance mode and the quiet mode using the resistor cable.  To put a full load on the CPU we will be using Prime95 and to temperatures were recorded with CoreTemp.

Up first we have the performance mode results.

And now the quiet mode.

As you can see there really is not much difference between the two tests.  Zalman says performance mode will run anywhere between 950 ~ 1200RPM  and quiet mode will run 850 ~ 1100RPM.  That honestly is not much of a difference at all.

This is out first cooler to be tested on the socket 2011 platform so we are unable to test it against anything else currently.  The average difference between idle and load temperatures is about 18 degrees, which is pretty good.  Not only that the highest temperature was only 54 degrees, which from what we have seen from other tests is very low for socket 2011.
