Alleged AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 CDNA GPU FP32 benchmarks show it beating NVIDIA Ampere A100

AMD is currently at work with a new generation of chips, which includes GPUs. Today, a leak has brought some details about these chips. Specifically, the AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 CDNA GPU, which could beat the NVIDIA Ampere A100 if the leaked details are true.

The leak has performance numbers with regards to FP32 compute benchmarks, which were leaked from an official AMD presentation. These were posted by AdoredTV, and give a fair idea to what to expect from AMD CDNA. Take a look:

The benchmarks show dual-socket systems, in configurations of 4 and 2 GPUs per CPU. It looks like AMD is aiming these for government labs, oil and gas, machine learning training, and academia.

In terms of performance, the AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 CDNA GPU does beat the NVIDIA Ampere A100 in the FP32 benchmark, but not much else. The MI100 is said to be based on the 7nm process, with 8192 GPU cores. For further, and confirmed details, it looks like we might have to wait a little longer.
