Apple is reportedly working on a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro that will feature a mini-LED screen. The new display technology offers increased brightness along with improved colour accuracy. A reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported about Apple’s decision to use a mini-LEd screen in their upcoming iPad Pro and their newly designed MacBook Pro models that will feature a 14.1 inch and 16-inch display.
DigiTimes also released a report about the new display technology, but there was no mention of an 11-inch iPad Pro receiving the mini-LED display. Moreover, Apple will also provide the mini-LED in a high-end MacBook soon. It is expected that the product launch will take place in 2021.
The reports also stated that Osram Opto Semiconductors is expected to be Apple’s second supplier. The shipments of the mini-LEDs will start in 2021.
Once Apple transitions to mini-LED technology, Apple’s next strategy will be to shift to micro-LED, but that will require a lot of time. The previous reports stated that the Apple Watch will feature a micro-LED, but this may take at least three more years.
