ASUS Has An External Graphics Card Enclosure For Laptops

Last week at CES we saw Razer’s Blade Stealth with optional Core external graphics card enclosure. The whole idea behind this is that you can take the laptop with you on the go and have great portability, but when you come home you have full graphics card support and power like you would have with a desktop. Well Razer is not the only one with one such enclosure, ASUS has one too, dubbed the ROG XG Station 2.

ASUS ROG XG Station 2

The ASUS ROG XG Station 2 is designed in the very stylish RIG style and has a cool window on the side so you can see your graphics card in action. ASUS says that the ROG XG Station 2 was “specifically designed for Asus laptops and graphics cards”, but it will work with other graphics cards as well, up to a Titan X.

It works much like Razer’s Core taking advantage of a PCI-Express x4 connection over a Thunderbolt 3.0 / USB Type-C connection. The XG Station 2 will also charge your laptop when in use.

It will be interesting to see if these external graphics card enclosures really take off this year.
