ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super OC Overview

With the original introduction of NVIDIA’s RTX 40 series ASUS completely redesigned their ROG Strix card and by now it is one of the most recognizable cards out there. If a system is rocking a ROG Strix card, you can tell just by looking at it. This is also going to be one of the largest RTX 4080 Super cards out there, with official dimensions of 357.6 x 149.3 x 70.1mm.

The card features a die-cast metal shroud, something you don’t typically see. You can tell that ASUS really means business with this card. The shroud has a pretty cool blue and red ROG logo embedded on it. Of course taking up most of the space on the top of the card are your fans, which are 110mm fans. These are ASUS’s Axial-tech fans which feature dual-ball bearings and a design where the blades actually connect to an outer frame that spins with the fan. The center fan actually will spin in the opposite direction of the two outer fans. The fans give you 23% more airflow over the previous design. The fans will of course turn off when the card is in an idle state. The two outer fans have the ROG logo on them, while the center fan says “ROG” on it.

Under the fans is a very large heatsink that makes use of vapor-chamber base and seven heatpipes to easily dissipate heat away from the GPU.

On the side of the card that will show if you have a case with a window you’ll find a large GeForce RTX logo and a Republic of Gamers logo. The ROG logo will light up with RGB lighting. Towards the center of the card you’ll find your power connection, which is a single 12VHPWR power connection. The card features a high-speed circuit that constantly monitors input power from your PSU and there are LED’s by the power connector to indicate voltage regulation issues and cable connection problems.

If we have a die-cast metal shroud on the front of the card, you know we are going to have a full-cover metal backplate. It has a very large ROG logo in the center and the end of the card also has a different ROG logo, and is ventilated to help with cooling. You can also see a small dual BIOS switch that allows you to toggle between performance and quite modes (fan profiles).

The card has a sort of end-cap on it, which is actually nice to see as many new cases have see-through glass on the front and this part of the card is visible. Here you’ll also find two 4-pin fan headers. You can actually connect two of your case fans to this card and they can be tuned with the fan curve of the card. This will definitely help with cooling as most motherboard fan curves are just based on the CPU.

Moving to our display connections we have three DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 . As you can see this card is slotted as a 2-slot card, but the actual height of the card is 3.5-slots, so be sure to keep that in mind.
