Overclocking
There is an easy way to overclock on the Sabertooth Z97 Mark S. When in the BIOS you can go into the EZ Tuning Wizard (press F11).

After answering a few questions about our system it would give us a 15% boost in performance for our CPU and 22% for our memory.

After restarting what this did was change our BCLK from 100 MHz to 102 MHz and upped our CPU multiplier to 45. This gave us a 4.58 MHz clock speed for our CPU up from 4.0 GHz. Our memory was upped from 1600 MHz to 1630 MHz. So not that bad for an auto-overclocking feature.

I of course decided I was going to do some overclocking on my own. So I first set my CPU voltage to 1.4V and started going up from 4.0 GHz and checking each time if the system was stable. I was able to boot at both 4.8 GHz and 4.7 GHz, but my final stable overclock was 4.6 GHz, which has been the limit for me with the Core i7 4790K. Still not a bad overclock at all!

  1. Sometimes I dont understand Asus, they make great products but this is a Z97 not an X99 and even if it has a ton of features and no wifi and no Startup button on the motherboard is a real downside. Plus we have Skylake coming out and even though I heard it will be LGA1150 I am not sure it will be compatible with Z97 boards. Alot to find out before buying a new system now.

  2. Skylake is not going to be LGA1150, it will be LGA1151, I believe. It is not going to be compatible with Z97.
However, the Broadwell processors will be LGA1150 (H97/Z97) compatible.

  3. love the look but really if they’re going to go through all the time and effort might as well throw in a built in (yet removable) white IO shield so it looks more like a solid piece instead of just a cover

  4. You are correct, but it will be compatible with DDR3 and DDR4 memory but who will use DDR3? I thought Broadwell was aimed at Mobility platforms not motherboard builds.
