The SBC-06D1S-U looks almost identical to the SBC-04D1S-U. ASUS has still gone with the all black look with a glossy finish. On the top of the drive there is an ASUS logo and a sort of “X” design. This “X” design actually lights up when the drive is in use, we will see that later in the review. ASUS calls this a slim external drive and it really is at only 21mm thick! This small design makes it perfect for traveling.
On the front of the drive you have a silver eject button and a few activity LED’s. Moving around to the back of the drive there is a single miniUSB connection. This connection serves both as a power and a data connection. This means you do not have to carry around a large power adapter with you, which again makes this drive perfect for traveling. I also like that ASUS did not make the USB connection proprietary like we have seen on some other devices. The means if you lose the cable or forget it at home you can pick one up easily and at a low cost.
On the bottom of the drive there are a few stickers with some information and serial numbers on them. There are also 4 rubber feet that will keep the drive from moving around on your desk. You will also notice a small rubber piece towards the bottom of the drive. If you remove it, it reveals where you install the stand.
Installing the stand on the SBC-06D1S-U is very easy. Just slide it up into the opening on the bottom of the drive. Once it is locked into place you are good to go. The drive really looks cool when it is in vertical orientation.
