Dark Base Pro 900 Overview
The Dark Base Pro is a very large case. It has official dimensions of 577mm x 243mm x 585mm (LxWxH) and weighs in at just under 32 pounds. The case is has an all black design with orange trim around the side. As I mentioned there are 4 different color variants of this case. Besides the black / orange you have black / black, black / silver, and white / white.
Starting at the front of the case we have a brushed aluminum front panel that is actually a large door. This door opens from the left side and reveals two 5.25-inch drive bays as well as a large fan filter. You can also notice some thick sound-dampening material on the inside of the door.
Taking a closer look inside the door at the top you’ll notice a slider and small button. The slider will control the speed of the three included fans. The button controls the colors of the included LED strips, they can be switched from white, red, blue, green, orange, and off. The fan filter on the front is easily removed and reveals two included be quiet! Silent Wings 3 140 mm fans. These fans sell for about $27 each on Amazon and are some of the best included fans we’ve seen on a case. There is another filter that pulls out from the front of the case, this filter extends the entire length of the case.
Moving back up to the top of the front of the case you’ll find your controls and connections. From left to right you have two USB 3.0 ports, headphone and microphone jacks, a large centered power button, smaller reset button, hard drive activity LED, and two USB 2.0 ports. As we come over the top of the case we find an interesting item, a wireless charger for Qi enabled devices. This could really come in handy if you have this case say on the floor and want to sit your phone right on top of it for easy charging.
The rest of the top of the case is pretty plain and we have that nice brushed aluminum look. You might be wondering where the top ventilation is, but we will should you in just a little bit how be quiet! has done things a little differently on this case. Towards the back you will find a few small ventilation holes though.
On the main side of the case we have a large tempered glass side panel. This tempered glass panel is slightly tinted, but far less than other glass panels we’ve seen recently. The glass panel takes up the entire side of the case so you are going to get to see every nook and cranny of your system. The side panel is help into place by three thumb-bolts (not screws). Along the top and bottom of the case you’ll notice large ventilated sections, this is how your top and bottom fans will get air in and out of the case.
At the back of the case we have a pretty straight forward design, but there are some things to point out. Towards the top we find a third be quiet! Silent Wings 3 fan, again the 140 mm model. This case can also support a 120 mm in this spot. Moving down there are eight expansion slots so as you can guess the case supports XL-ATX and E-ATX motherboards. Finally at the bottom we have where your power supply would go, but you’ll notice there is already a plug there and that the ventilation section back there is separated into 3 parts. You’ll see why in just a little bit.
The opposite side panel is a normal panel, but it does have a small be quiet! logo. Behind this logo you can mount two fans, which we will show you in just a little bit. Looking at the bottom of the case we can see that once again we don’t see large ventilation holes as that is taken care of by the large ventilated sections on the sides of the case. There is also two large ventilation slits on the bottom rear.
