CES 2009: ASUS

Notebooks

One of the coolest notebooks that I saw at the ASUS booth was the Eee PC T91. It is the first notebook in the Eee PC series to be a tablet. This sleek little 8.9-inch tablet is powered by an Intel Atom Z520 processor and only weighs 990g! A tablet netbook is something that I’ve wanted to see for a while now; it’s good to see ASUS bringing this to the market. The screen on the T91 is also LED backlit so colors will be much more vibrant.

ASUS also had their gaming notebooks on display, most notably the G50Vt and the G70Sg. Starting with the G50Vt it is a 15.4-inch notebook based on the Intel PM45 express chipset and features a GeForce 9800M GS video card, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4G of DDR2 memory, up to 640GB of hard drive space, a 2.0-MP webcam and WiFi. The 17-inch G70Sg has the same features except it is based off the Intel PM965 express chipset, can support up to 8GB of memory and has a GeForce 9800M GTS.

Both gaming notebooks feature a cool LED display below the screen that will display system information and even instant messages. The G70Sg also has very cool lighting effects on the sides of the display.

All-in-One

The theme of this year’s CES had to be the all-in-one PC. They were all over the place and there were no shortage of them at the ASUS booth. They announced the Eee Top ET1602 a 15.6-inch all-in-one PC. This PC features a touch screen, Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB SATA hard drive, WiFi, card reader and runs Windows XP Home. The low price of these units along with their small size is really making the “kitchen PC” a reality. ASUS is offering the ET1602 in both white and black versions.

ASUS also had a very interesting Eee box on display. The D200 is currently a prototype but is an all-in-one media box / NAS. It is also based on the Intel Atom processor, has 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 512MB flash ROM, supports 2 hard drives (up to 2TB), has a built in 802.11n MIMO AP router, vertical slot-loading DVD-RW and 6-channel HD audio. On the back you will find 4 LAN ports, 4 USB connections, DVI out and audio out. On the front there is also a 3.5-inch touch screen LCD. It will be interesting to see this when it comes out.
