Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 140 Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Overview
When we take everything out of the cardboard for inspection we find all the parts enclosed in plastic bags. All parts arrived blemish free in perfect condition. Nearly everything in the kit is enclosed in a bag, including all the hardware aside from the Y splitter for the fans. Taking everything out of it’s bag we find a complete set of hardware for installation in nearly all Intel and all older AMD systems. If you have purchased a Ryzen based motherboard you will need to order an AM4 adapter directly from CM free of charge. It is unknown whether the Pro 140 supports the new Threadripper parts. A notable inclusion in the Pro 140 kit are two rubber fan shrouds.

Moving to the cooler itself we find a product built from nice high impact plastics, oversized tubing and a nice dark black color scheme.

Included are a pair of MasterFan Pro 140 AP variable speed four pin equipped fans. The AP stand for air pressure as these are designed to be radiator specific boasting up to 5.28 mmH20 of pressure at full speed (2800rpm & 82.2 CFM). The rings are made with a high impact plastic and are matte black while the blades are semi transparent and grey. CM has put a lot of R&D and tech into these fans and we’ve enjoyed them on their other coolers. Not only do they seem to perform quite well, they are pretty quiet thanks impart to the included rubber shrouds and the rubber mounts on the arms.

And now on to the star of the show, the cooler. It of course consists of a pretty thin (27mm) 140mm radiator, some super thick sleeved FEP tubing, and the new CM proprietary pump design.

The pump itself features dual chambers. One that takes in cooled water from the radiator where it runs through the impeller and then jets it out and down to the full copper base where it sprays the cool water directly at the center of the fins of the base. This allows the pump to avoid being in the hot water coming from the block while still maintaining a standard compact AiO pump/block design. The idea is high performance and a high MTTF for the pump. You can see on the outside of the pump where the two chambers are connected. Aside from the connector and fittings the only other bits on the pump are the attachment points for the socket adapters and a single 4 pin electrical connection.

The base is protected as usual by a plastic sticker and has about a B grade finish due the circular machining grooves that are still present on the base.

The opposite end of all AiO’s is the radiator and as we mentioned this one is a thin 27mm and all black aside from the white lettering on one of the sides. The radiator features a square fin design that is supposed to allow for freer flowing air as well as more heat dissipation.

One thing worth noting about the design of the MasterLiquid series is the slight restriction the external tubing connection makes. The swivel fitting on that side of the pump is unable to move more than 180° and is stopped from rotating forward fairly quickly.
